George Clooney didn’t set out to build a billion-dollar brand
George Clooney didn’t set out to build a billion-dollar brand. In fact, it all started with a few bottles of tequila and some good times with friends.
Back in 2013, Clooney and his buddy Rande Gerber wanted to create a tequila they could sip all day without a hangover. They weren’t thinking business — they were thinking vacation drinks. They named it Casamigos, meaning “House of Friends.”
What started as a private stash quickly took off. Friends wanted it. Then bars wanted it. Before they knew it, Casamigos was becoming a serious player in the liquor world.
Fast forward to 2017: Diageo, a global beverage giant, bought Casamigos for $1 billion.
Clooney didn’t launch a tequila brand to make money — but because it was authentic, people loved it. And that authenticity turned into a fortune.
