Benin History on Trial The Untold Stories Beyond the Palace Walls

The Oba of Benin appears reluctant to accept the true origin of his dynasty. If the Oba truly defeated the Ogiso Evian Ogiamien royal lineage, then why did he withdraw from the Ekiokpagha Treaty after 800 years of its existence? That treaty symbolizes the historical events of the battle between the Ogiso Ogiamien faction and the emerging Obaship.

I posed a simple question to Izoduwa (6-1), and he could not provide a satisfactory answer. Ooni Oduduwa was the first Ooni of Ife, and Ooni Oranmiyan was the sixth. How then do we reconcile the narrative that Oduduwa sent Oranmiyan to Benin? There's an average gap of about 200 years between their reigns, making such a claim historically implausible.

Furthermore, the story of the Oba is often told without any reference to the account of HRM Oba Elawure of Usen. Yet, the true historical facts surrounding the Benin monarchy can be traced through the histories of Usen, Egbeta, Uhen, Olumoye, the Olu of Warri, the Oba N’Ughu, and several other independent sources.

Since 1970, there has been a noticeable trend of the Oba of Benin sponsoring historians to present narratives that favor his position. These are verifiable facts. (Edited)
