Michelle Obama I’m glad I never had a Son reveals

Former First Lady Michelle Obama says she has no regrets about not having a son — and she’s “so glad” she didn’t, joking that he would have been a miniature version of her husband, former President Barack Obama.

The candid comment came during the latest episode of her “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast”, released Wednesday, where she was joined by her brother, Craig Robinson, and radio host Angie Martinez. The trio had been discussing masculinity and the challenges of raising boys and young men.

“You should’ve thrown a boy in the mix,” Martinez teased, prompting laughter.

“I’m so glad I didn’t have a boy,” Obama responded, before adding with a grin, “Because he would’ve been a Barack Obama.”

Martinez playfully replied, “Baby Barack — it would’ve been amazing!”

But Michelle wasn’t convinced. “Ooh, no. I would’ve felt for him,” she laughed, suggesting the pressure of being a mini Barack would have been overwhelming.

Her brother chimed in, noting that Michelle had “borrowed” his sons over the years. “I got plenty,” she agreed.

Michelle and Barack Obama, who married in 1992, are parents to two daughters: Malia, 26, and Sasha, 24. Reflecting on motherhood, she said, “I’ve loved every phase of parenting: when they were babies, when they started to talk, even the teenage years in the White House.”

She added, “I love watching them become their own people, make their own choices, figure stuff out — and then call me after they figure stuff out.”
