I was paid 50 naira for my first job as an actor. I asked if the money was for me to buy a car- Tajudeen Oyewole

Veteran Yoruba actor, Alhaji Tajudeen Oyewole, popularly known as Abijawara Bi Ekun, has taken a nostalgic trip down memory lane, reflecting on the humble beginnings of his acting career.

In a revealing interview with Behind the Fame - African A-List, he shared the story of the first payment he received as an actor and how much it meant to him at the time.

“The year 5 naira come out was when I first earned from acting. I was sh0cked that it happened that year. The amount I got was 50 naira and it was a big amount that year,” he said.

Recalling the moment he received the check, he added, “When they first gave me the check, I was sh0cked and asked if the money was for a car. They told me it was a payment for the job I did. When I saw the name of the bank on the check, I saw that it was a popular bank. I said I wasn’t going to go withdraw the money because I might be trickèd.”

Abijawara recounted how he kept the check safe while filming continued. “I folded the check and put it in my trousers. We continued filming. Since they provided food for us, there was no need for me to use the money and purchase more.”

When asked how he finally spent the money, he smiled and said, “When I got to the village, that was when I withdrew the money. I did not tell my wife before I went to get it.”
