 Lady Rai was a noblewoman from the 18th Dynasty of Kemet (Ancient Egypt), who lived around 1550–1530 BCE. She served as a nurse to Queen Ahmose-Nefertari, a prominent royal figure during the early New Kingdom period. Her mummified remains were discovered in the Deir el-Bahari cache (modern-day Luxor), remarkably well-preserved.

What makes Lady Rai especially fascinating is the facial reconstruction based on CT scans of her mummy. Using modern forensic techniques, researchers created a lifelike image of what she may have looked like over 3,500 years ago. The result is a striking, serene face—giving humanity to someone who lived millennia ago.

Her mummy also revealed she died young, likely in her 30s, and was embalmed with great care, reflecting her high status. Lady Rai’s reconstruction bridges ancient history with the present, reminding us that behind every mummy is a real person with a story.
