Mike Ejeagha, the legendary Nigerian highlife musician has pass away


Mike Ejeagha, the legendary Nigerian highlife musician and folklorist, passed away on the evening of Friday, June 6, 2025, at the age of 95. He died at approximately 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu after a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed by his eldest son, Emma Ejeagha .


Born on April 4, 1930, in Imezi Owa, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Ejeagha was affectionately known as “Gentleman” for his dignified presence and storytelling prowess. His music, rich with Igbo proverbs and moral lessons, played a significant role in preserving and promoting Igbo culture. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he recorded over 300 songs and contributed extensively to the National Archives of Nigeria .


Ejeagha's legacy continues to resonate, as his unique blend of music and folklore remains influential in Nigerian music.
